KTH RACING'S SPONSORS

Not too much visible progress was done in the last week, but the team is continiously working on the project. Biggest aim is now to get the gearbox manufactured on time. The roll hoop has been bent and the frame is coming along nicely. Our inhouse welding champion is doing a good job! A battery box prototype was built to evaluate the current design. Biggest progress has been done in the electronics group, that have finished some more electrical components for this years car.A lot of preparation work has been done for the manufacturing of the bodywork. The architecure school, that is our partner for CNC milling of the plug, was inviting us for the second week of May to work on their facilities to produce the actual male model of the bodywork.
We also got the chance to look at our new garage, that is accomodated in the facility of the newly formed Transport Demolab Platform. We are looking forward to move soon - and having a fresh place and motivating environment to finish the car.

Did you know ? KTH Racing is of course a Swedish Team, but not exclusively...The team is very proud of its numerous nationalities this year, including Sweden, Iceland, Germany, France, Romania, Hungary, Ukraine, Lebanon, Russia, China, Spain, Iran and India. This merge of different cultures creates a real synergy that helps us finding the best solution to the complex issues we have to tackle. This creates also fantastic means of integration for the foreign students that have the opportunity to experience a real Swedish association!
Of course, English is now the procedural language in our garage, but Swedish is a close runner-up, making it possible for the international students to improve their skills in our beautiful language.

...what an Easter break !
Actually, the garage has never been as active as it was the last week ! The steering system is almost complete after hours of machining and the four hubs have been turned. Check out a video of the hubs manufacturing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9-6BLPxW5I We have now received all the materials we were waiting for from our sponsor Uddheholm. What a pleasure to work on this extremly good aluminium with our new Sandvik tools!

An other great news, is that the frame is now on its way, too. The front part has been completed and we are now waiting for the main hoop that should be bent this week. Once it will be done, we will start to assemble all parts together and get a rolling car as soon as possible.
Now that we got our composite materials from our colaborator Oxeon, we can start working on the parts that need carbon fiber. The first will be our steering wheel, and then the whole body of the R9e. This year, we will have to incorporate a copper mesh, so test have to be conducted.

The past week started out with some waffles made by our team manager, Ari, since it was våffeldagen ("waffle day") last sunday. This was a good start of an exciting week. During the week we received many critical components that we have been waiting for.It started with a delivery of all the tubes for the frame which Tibnor supplied us with. So now we have over 60m of steel tubes that needs to be cut and welded. In the middle of the week we got all the aluminium that we need which is sponsored from Uddeholm.
The week ended with a delivery of our new battery cells from supplier Celltech which was an great feeling for the whole team. Now a big part of the car finally is in the garage. So this week will have lot of manufacturing and machining.

The last week the whole team also started with the cost report which means that we now have a first draft of all the parts and assemblies report.
Everyone in the team starts to get excited, that the actual process of building up the car starts now. KTHRacing is looking forward to an amazing season 2012, with the KTHR9e!

KTHRacings last week was full of challanges: Since our impact attenuator didn't pass the first test, we were arranging a new sponsor for the IA test: the VTI, the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute will provide us with a crashtest in their facilities. Combined with that we were in a need to design and manufacture a testrig for the crashtests at VTI. A detailed newspost will follow here, as soon as we are done with the testing. Thanks again to Clear River Racing, that were really nice hosts for our first tries.
We also got new parts, that were ordered: Our datalogging crew was amazed about the linear potentiometers, that will measure the alteration of the dampers. The logged data will be used to tweak the suspension to its optimal performance and to provide the driver with a nice handling of the car. Manufacturing tools, Solid state relays and the SKF package arrived as well, as mentioned in former newsposts.
Good news from our battery supplier: Celltech gave us a call and prepared us for the arrival of the 300 Kokam batteries by the end of this week. A lot of work is upcomming with the arrival of the batteries: a last design check on the battery case will be done after the physical evaluation of the batteries. Manufacturing and assemlby of the different cases follow then.
Electricity is a good headword: Our electrical group made some major steps towards the final design of some PCBs: Test have been conducted i.e. on the PCBs for the steering wheel, including the rotation speed indicator and the driver information LCD. The FPGA programming for the torque vectoring is developing continuously. The ongoing masterthesis on the torque vectoring model itself is on a good track.
KTHRacing is looking forward to the upcomming week: The team intern deadline for the cost-report parts of all members is set to the weekend. Every member has to provide the filled in cost report tables of his parts/assemblies, that will be reviewed and later included to the final cost report hand in. Deadline for the official Hockenheim cost report handin it the 11th of June.
